This hiking + kayak route begins from the port of Caño Hondo / Sabana de La Mar. We will walk for around 3 hours along the Wet Forest in Los Haitises National Park. You will learn about the medicinal plants of this area, see the primary and secondary broadleaf forest in the mountains of Los Haitises National Park and at the same time reach the source of the Jivales River from where the waters of the natural pools of the Eco-lodge come out. Hondo Caño. Then we take the necessary equipment for your safety (life jackets, etc.), kayaks and cross the mangroves. You will see some mangroves filled with birds, rolling hills of lush greenery. Through the mangroves and land in the open bay of San Lorenzo, from where you can photograph the wonderful forest landscape.

After this experience, you will return to Cano Hondo or Sabana de la mar.

Hike + Kayak Los Haitises National Park

What to expect?

The name of the national park comes from its original inhabitants, the Taino Indians. In their language, “Haitises” translates to highlands or hills, a reference to the steep limestone geological formations of the coast. The Kayak activity is 2 hours.

Learn about history and nature from local tour guides who grow as environmental protectors and volunteers within this project area. The tour, organized by “Booking Adventures” begins at the meeting point established with the tour guide.

After an initial walk through fields and farmland, you will begin walking through the coconut and Cacao forest. Be every minute within the primary and unique forest area within the Los Haitises National Park. Come with Booking Adventures and start seeing some endemic species of birds, mammals and plants, rolling hills of lush vegetation and caves of Los Haitises National Park.

In the rainforest, there are more than 700 species of plants, we try to teach visitors about all the medicinal plants that we know on this hiking route.

Hotel pickup

Hotel pickup is not offered for this tour. Only if you are at the Cano Hondo Hotel or Hotels in the Sabana de la Mar area.
